Mozilla Thunderbird Setup

Here are some screenshots that will help you to configure Mozilla Thunderbird so you can start downloading messages from the F1NGers Newsgroup.

Start Mozilla Thunderbird. Click TOOLS > ACCOUNT SETTINGS

Click ADD ACCOUNT

Since F1NGers is a newsgroup, select Newsgroup Account and click NEXT

Now enter your desired name and email address. We’re proud to say that we’ve never ever had a F1NGer complain of receiving spam or unwanted junk email as a result of displaying an email address in the newsgroup. This is so, because only people with valid credentials can view F1NGers. Even search engines can’t crawl and make a record of messages posted here.

Type in news.zeppole.com as the news server.

Type in a name of choice like  F1NGers and click NEXT to proceed.

Verify that this initial information is correctly entered and is shown on the Summary screen. Click FINISH.

We now need to ensure that Mozilla Thunderbird will use authentication when connecting so it’s able to login to the private section that is F1NGers. Select the SERVER SETTINGS section; Tick mark the box labeled ALWAYS REQUEST AUTHENTICATION.

An intermediary step now – right click on the newly created F1NGers server and from the menu choose SUBSCRIBE

The next step is to enter the login credentials that were sent to you when you asked to join us. Do be careful to enter the username and password exactly as displayed in the email, both of which are CASE SENSITIVE, so PassWord is not the same as pASSwORD !

A standard box warning you about the travails of saving sensitive info might pop up, which you can dismiss after reading and understanding the contents.

Thunderbird will now gain access to F1NGers, provided the server is working and you’ve entered your username and password correctly. Select the newsgroups that you want to access- we recommend you select all three, but f1ng.ers is where the majority of discussions take place.

That’s it ! For offline usage, simply right-click each group and choose PROPERTIES > OFFLINE to be able to download individual messages.
